In the mountains of Kerry, ab. 45 m. n. of Cork; famous for their scenery, and celebrated in IMG:content-0947.png:[graphic] IMG:content-0948.png:[graphic][subsumed][merged small] by the Mongols 1240; held by Lithuania 1320-1569, then by Poland, and by Ru ia since 1654. The Univ. of St. Vladimir, moved here from Vilna 1833, has a library of 150,000 vols., and (1895) 2,244 students. Pop., 1891, 183,640.
