An American electrician; inventor of a self adjusting telegraph relay (1867), a telegraph repeater, a printing telegraph, the tel autograph (1890), and other apparatus chiefly concerned with the telegraph and telephone. He disputed with Bell the credit for the invention of the telephone (1876).
