metacinnabarite (met as in a bar it)

Gr. μετά (see meta- ) + E. cinnabar + -ite2.] Native mercuric sulphid, crystallizing in tetrahedral crystals, resembling those of the zinc sulphid sphalerite, also occurring ma ive of a black or grayish-black color. It is found with the red mercuric sulphid cinnabar in California. metacism (met'a-sizm), n. See mytacism. metacœle (met'a-sēl), n.
