EMIGRATION

The act ot changing one's domicile from one country or state to another. It is to be distinguished from "expatriation." The latter means the abandonment of one's country and l'enunciation of one's citizenship in it, while emigration denotes mel"ely the removal of pel'SOn and pl'operty to a fol"eign state. The former is usually the consequence of the latter. Elm i grat i on is also used of the removal from one section to another of the same country. [s. 426]
