CLARK, FRANCIS EDWARD

(1851): an American clergyman, and founder of the United Society of Christian EnHe was educated at Dart mouth College and the And over Theological Seminary, after which he became pastor of the Will is ton Congregational Church, in Portland, Me. Here, in 1881, he founded the first society_of the Society of Christian Endeavor, which has since spread all over the North American Continent and into many other countries of the world. Since 1887 he has devoted himself entirely to his office as president of the United Society of Christian Endeavor. Among the numerous works he has written are Our Vacations, 1874; The Church and the Young People, 1882; Christian Endeavor Saints, 1890; Old Lanterns for New Paths, 1898; and The Gospel of Out-of-Doors, 1920.
