(fi-vin), Ant. (Antonius) de, ca. 1473—1515 (?); Nether lan dish (?) contrapuntist; contemporary with Josquin Després, and rated second only to him. (2) Robert (Robert us), Cambrai, 15th cent.; c. Février (fay’-ré-8), (1) Henri Louis, Abbeville—Paris, ca. 1780; composer of clavecin music, of which he pub. 2 collections in 1734 and 1755. (2) Henry, b. Paris, 1875; composer; pupil of H. Woollett and the Paris Cons., studying with Pugno, Leroux and Ma enet; also privately with Me ager; his first compositions were chamber music, incl. a piano trio and sonata for vin. and piano; he has also written pieces for the latter | instrument, choruses and songs, but is chiefly known for his operas, among are ‘‘Le Roi aveugle’’ (Paris, 1906), ‘‘Monna Vanna’ after Maeterlinck (Paris, 1909), ‘‘Gismonda,” taken from Sardou drama (Chicago, 1919), and a number of operettas.
