Mantineia (Peloponnesian War)

Fought B.C. 418, between 10,000 Spartans and Tegeans, under Agis, and an equal force of A then i ans, under Laches and Nicostratus. The Spartan left was completely routed, but the A then i an centre and left failed to withstand the Spartan attack, and but for the defeat of Agis' left wing, would have been surrounded and captured. In the end the Spartans gained a signal victory. Laches Laches and Nicostratus both fell in the action.
