CENTRAL I A

a city of Washington, in Lewis co. It is on several important railroads and is midway between Portland and Seattle. The city is an important industrial community and has manufactures of lumber and canned goods. There are banks, schools and a Carnegie library. A tragedy occurred there on November 11, 1919, which directed the attention of the country to that city. During a parade of World War veterans who were celebrating the first anniversary of the signing of the Armistice, members of the I.W.W. concealed on the roofs of buildings, opened fire on the soldiers and killed several. One of the a ailants was killed during the fighting which followed. Another was lynched, and_ several charged with committing the crime were arrested and found guilty of murder. Pop.
