Alden, John

(1599-1687), the hero of Long fellow’s ‘Courtship of Miles Standish,’’ accompanied the Pilgrims from Southampton as a cooper. The youngest of the Pilgrims, he afterward became a magistrate of the colony, and was such for more than half a century.
