corn thrips (kornthrips)

The popular name in England of Phlœothrips cerealium. Its eggs are laid on wheat, oats, and gra es, and the insects are found in the ears as soon as these begin to form. It is undoubt. edly injurious, although a erted by some observers to feed on aphides. An insect indistinguishable from this species is found in the United States, but seems there to be confined to oats and wild gra es. 1272 Hence-2.
