WILLIAM, (köllinz,) an English poet, B. 1720. His Odes on the Pa ions are amongst the finest of modern lyrics. D. 1756.-C., WILLIAM, an eminent English painter of landscape and genre, B. 1797; D. 1847.-C., WILLIAM WILKIE, Son of the latter, B. 1824, is a very popular novelist of the " sensational school." His chief works are The Woman in White, No Name, The Moonstone, and Man and Wife. [s. 205]
