In seal- engraving, a ring with a small dish on top to hold oil and diamond-dust. It is worn on the forefinger of the workman, and the wheel is simply allowed to rotate in the dish to replenish the engraving-tool. oil-rubber (oil'rub"ėr), n. In engraving, a piece of woolen cloth, 6 or 7 inches long, rolled tightly so that the roll is from 2 to 24 inches in diameter, tied with a string, and touched with oil. It is used to rub down too dark parts of engraved work, or to clean a copperplate.
