John Scott, Earl of, an English jurist—lord chancellor for many years; born in Newcastle, June 4, 1751. In 1821 he was created an earl Ls George IV. He died in London, Jan. 13, 1838.__As a lawyer he was a master of English jurisprudence; as a politician he was opposed to reform.
