(a-kil'leez.) (Heroic Hist.) The hero of the Il.ad, was the son of Peleus and of the nereid Thetis; and is especially famous as the most valiant of all the Grecian chiefs at the siege of Troy. He was killed by Paris, who shot him in the heel, his only vulnerable part. [s. 6]
