Rhipidogorgia (rip"idogorjia)

[NL., the family Gorgoniidæ, expanded in a regularly reticulate flabelliform shape. They are known as fan - corals and sea fans, and have often been referred to the more comprehensive genus Gorgon i a. R. flabellum is one of the commonest corals of tropical and subtropical waters, found in most collections of such objects for ornamental purposes. It varies much in size and contour (compare cut under coral ), but preserves its flatne and finely netted structure; it is generally of a purplish color. Rhipidophoridæ, Rhipidophorus. Same as Rhipiphoridæ, etc. Rhipidoptera (rip-i Fan-coral ( Rhipidogorgia fla bellum ).
