(Lat.),n.f. pl. A?s(a3s)-tetr-o(0?;i7d'e3-e(a3-e?), 1. Of Brongniart, a cla of the perigynous Gamopetalæ, comprising the single family Composite. 2. Of Link, an order of the ‘Anthodiate, comprising Aster, Solidago, Arnica, Puli car i a, Inula, and other genera. 3. Of most authors, a tribe of the Composite. including the subtribes Astereæ, Baccharideæ, Tar chon an theæ, Trellantheæ. Melumpodice [Le ], or Asterineæ, Baccharidece, Tar chon an thew, Inuleæ, Buphthalmeæ, and Eclipteæ [De Candolle], or the subtribes Homo chromeæ, Grangeineæ, Bellideæ, Hetero chromeæ, Conyzeæ, and Baccharideæ [Bentham and Hooker]. It includes genera with heterogamous, radiate, or disciform, or, by the absence of the ray, homogamous heads; anthers: obtuse at the base, nearly entire; branches of the style flattened, usually append i col ate; leaves usually alternate; receptacle generally naked; disk-florets wy yellow, those of the ray homochromous or heterochromous.
