Fire Alarm

—An apparatus for giving or communicating an alarm of fire; as, by telegraphic signals. When of the automatic type the operation depends on the action of thermostats, placed in the circuit at various points; these are affected by a change of temperature, hence on being heated they close the circuit which causes the alarm to sound.
