FOUNDING

or MOULDING, is a method of casting metals by preparing a mould in green or dry sand or in loam.| A pattern, usually of wood, but some-! times of metal, is used; the sand is firmly beaten about it and damped; the pattern is withdrawn, and molten metal poured in. In order to withdraw the pattern it is nece ary that the mould should be made in two parts, which fit upon one another.
