embryological term, a thin membrane formed of cells or blastomeres resulting from the segmentation of the ovum, which gradually surrounds the yolk. (1831-91), Ru . theosophist; claimed to have been initiated into esoteric Buddhism, and to have the power of communicating with the unseen world. With Col. Olcott and other converts she founded, in America, the Theosophic Society (1875). Mme B. was the author of Isis Unveiled (1877) and The Key to Theosophy (1889).
