This applies to the cooling of solids or liquids when exposed in a chamber of uniform temperature. At each instant the amount of heat lost varies as the difference of temperature between the body and the chamber. The proportionality is sensibly exact when this difference does not exceed a few degrees. In symbols we may expre the law.
