(bā'len,) a town of Spain. p. Jaen, at the foot of the Sierra Morena. Here, July 20, 1808, the French Gen. Dupont was surrounded by the Spaniards, and, in afit of aberration, surrendered with 16,000 excellent troops to the Spanish general Castaños. [s. 81]
