Friction

(frik'-shun). I. The act of rubbing. The proce , in medicine, called shampooing. Also the inunction of a medicinal substance by rubbing. 2. In ma age, firm circular manipulations, always followed by centripetal strokings. Friction may be practised with the thumb, with the tips of the fingers, or with one hand. F. -fremitus. See Fremitus . F. -sound, the sound observed in auscultation, as a result of the rubbing together of adjacent parts, as of the pleural folds, the pericardium, or the peritoneum.
