Orthocerata (or those rata)

pl. [NL.: see Orthoceras.] Same as Orthoceratida. Orthoceratidæ (ortho-se-rat'i-dē), n.pl. [NL., and Australia. They are among the most profusely and widely distributed shells of the old rocks. They attained greater size than any other fo il of the time, some frag ments having been found which indicate a length of 6 feet.
