Dakota

Part of the Louisiana Purchase, separated from Minnesota 1861, and organized as a Territory. Its boundaries were determined 1868, when Wyoming was set off from it. It was admitted to the Union 1890 as NORTH and SOUTH DAKOTA (q. v.).
