Alkali Metals

Lithium, sodium, pota ium, rubidium, and cæsium. Alkalimetry. Proce by which the strength of a given solution of an alkali is determined, by comparing it with an acid solution of known strength. Alkaline Earths. The oxides of barium, calcium and strontium; berylliuni and magnesium are sometimes included. Alkaloids. Organic bases containing basic nitrogen; also carbon, hydrogen, and often oxygen; of very complicated structure, and largely derivatives of pyridine and quinoline; mostly of vegetable origin, with powerful physiological action; many are deadly poisons.
