Taylor, Bayard

(1825-1878), author, came into prominence by his accounts of a pedestrian tour in Europe from 1844 to 1846. In 1847 he became an editor on the staff of the 7ribune, He made extensive travels through Europe, Asia and Africa. He was Secretary of Legation at St. Petersburg from 1862 to 1863 and Minister to Berlin in 1878. He wrote an admirable translation of Goethe's Faust.
