(zo-an’thro-pe) (Gr. ζῷον animal + ἄνθρωπος man]. The maniacal belief of a patient that he has become a beast. zoeoptroscope (zo0-e-op’tro-skép) [Gr. {wy life + σκοκεῖν to view]. A variety of chronophotograph. zoetic (zo-ct’ik) (Gr. ζωή life]. Pertaining to life. goetrope (zo’e-trép) [Gr. {wy life + τρέπειν to turn]. An apparatus which affords pictures of objects apparently moving as in life. soiatria, zoiatrics (zo-e-at’re-ah, zo-e-at’riks) [Gr. {Gov animal + larpela healing]. Veterinary practice. ξοὶς (zo’ik) [Gr. ζωικός, from Suh life}. to life or characterized by animal life. Zéliner’s lines (zel’nerz) [Fried rich Zéner, Dutch physicist, 1834-1882]. See under line. zomakyne (zo’mak-in). A proprietary analgesic, anodyne, and antipyretic medicine. szomidin (zo’mid-in) (Gr. ζωμός broth). A constituent of meat-extract. zomol (zo’mol). Σ. fascicula’ta, the central part of the cortex of a suprarenal capsule. 8. ganglion a’ris, a ma of ganglion ti ue on the cochlear divisions of the auditory nerve. 8. glomerulo’sa, the outermost of the layers of the cortex of the suprarenal capsule, having a net-like appearance on section. BZ. pectin a’ta, the outer part of the basilar membrane of the cochlea, running from the rods of Corti to the spiral ligament. z. pellu’cid a, g. radia’ta, the innermost of the two lining membranes of the ovum. It is a thick layer traversed by radiating spores. See son esthesia. zonal (zo’nal) [L. son a’lis]. Of the nature of a zone. gonary (zo’nar-e). Shaped like a zone. zone (zon) [L. το΄πα; Gr. ζώνη]. A girdle or belt. abdominal z's, the three zones into which the surface of the abdomen is divided by the subcostal and inter tubercular lines. These regions are the subcostal, or that above the subcostal line, the mesogastric, or that between the subcostal and inter tubercular lines, and the Aypogastric, or that below the inter tubercular line. an electrotonic z. See polar z. arsenical z., a vesicular eruption caused by arsenic. cervical Σ., the lowest quarter of the internal surface of the uterus. Charcot’s z’s, the hysterogenic zones. cornu radicular g., the outer part of Burdach’s column. dorsal zg. of His, the smaller upper thickening of the dorsal embryonic spinal cord projecting into the central canal. From it are developed the cerebral hemispheres and optic thalami. epileptogenic Σ., epileptogenous 8., an area stimulation of which may bring on epileptic attacks. erogenous Σ., erotogenic &., a portion of the body excitation of which produces erotic fancies or sensations. extra visual g., that part of the dioptric surfaces and media which is not capable of accurately focusing light. Head's 3’8, areas of cutaneous sensitivene a ociated with diseases of the viscera; called also zones of hyperalgesia.. Of His, the four thickenings which run the entire length of the medullary cord in the fetus. hyperesthetic z., a region of the surface of the body marked by abnormal sensibility. hypogastric £. See under abdominal z's. hysterogenic z., hysterogenous £., a region of the body whereon pre ure may elicit a hysteric attack. intermediate z., that portion of the field of vision which lies between the fifteenth and forty-fifth concentric circles. 1 z., the word-center of the cerebral cortex. 8. of large pyramids, the deepest but one of the four zones in the cortex of the cerebrum. latent s., that part of the cortex of the brain which exhibits no motor symptoms. lenticular £., an area of the cerebrum bounded anteriorly by the white substance of the third frontal convolution, posteriorly by Wernicke’s area, externally by the Ansula, and internally by the wall of the third ventricle, It comprises the external capsule, the Jenticular and caudate nuclei, the anterior and posterior segments of the internal capsule, and the optic thalamus. Li auer’s Σ., marz., a bridge of white substance between the apex of the dorsal horn and the periphery of the spinal cord. median root z., the oval fasciculus. See fasciculus. mesogastric Σ. See under abdominal z's. motor Ζ., an area of the cortex of the brain which, when electrically stimulated, causes contraction of voluntary muscles. neutral g. of His, a thickening of the dorsal portion of the embryonic spinal cord projecting into the central canal. pellucid zg., the zona pellucid a. per i polar z., the region around the polar zone. placental z., the surface of the uterus to which the placenta is attached. polar Σ.. the region immediately around an_ electrode applied to the body. Σ. of polymorphous cells, the innermost or deepest of the four zones of the cerebral cortex. Rolando’s g., the motor area of the cerebral cortex. root Σ., that part of the whi.e matter of the spinal cord which is connected with the anterior and posterior nerve roots. gz. of small pyramids, the layer next beneath the superficial zone in the cerebral cortex. subcostal sg. See under abdominal s’s. superficial z., the outermost of the four layers of cortical cells of the cerebrum. transition z., transitional z., the circle in the equator of the lens of the eye in which epithelial fibers are de- veloped into lens-fibers. vascular z., a region in the supra mastoid fo a containing many foramina for the p of blood-ve els. visual g., the area around an optic axis in which there is practically no aberration. The extra visual zone just outside of it is practically incapable of accurately focusing light. Wernicke’s z. See. Wernicke's center, under center. Westphal’s z., a zone of the dorsal column of the spinal cord in the lumbar region; said to contain the esodic fibers concerned in the patellar reflex. s. of Zinn. See zonule of Zinn. zonesthesia, zonsesthesia (zo-nes-the’ze-ah) [Gr. ζώνη zone + αἴσθησις sensation]. A sensation of constriction, as by a girdle.. son if (zo-nif'u-gal) [L. so’na zone + fu’gere to flee]. Pa ing outward from any zone or region. son i petal (zo-nip’et-al) [L. zo’na zone + pe'tere to ]. Pa ing from outside into any area or region. zonula (zén’u-lah), pl. zon’ule [L.]. A little zone or zonule; especially the zonule of Zinn. zonular (zén’u-lar). Pertaining to a zonule. Zonule (z6n’il) [L. zon’uia]. A little zone or girdle. 8. of Zinn, the suspensory ligament of the eyelens, consisting of a ring-shaped series of fibers extending from the ciliary body to the equator of the lens. Called also zone of Zinn. zonulitis (zén-u-li’tis). Inflammation of the zonule of Zinn.
