(Queen's University, Kingston, Ont., 1875), Presbyterian; b. in parish of Kirkcolm, Wig towns hire, Scotland, Dec. 26, 1830; graduated at Toronto, Ontario, Can., Seminary of United Presbyterian Church, 1852; became minister at St. Mary's, Ont., 1852; profe or of exegetical theology and biblical criticism, Knox College, Toronto, 1866; and principal of the college, 1873. He was moderator of the General A embly of the Canada Presbyterian Church, at the union of the Presbyterian Churches in 1875; president of teachers' a ociation of Ontario, in 1877; and member of the General Councils of the Alliance of the Reformed Churches in Edinburgh (1877), Philadelphia (1880), and Belfast (1884). He has published pamphlets, articles, etc.
