considered the first king of all England, was of the royal family of We ex. He succeeded Brihtric in 802 as King of We ex. He reduced the other kingdoms and rendered them dependent on him in 829, thus Pecoming: their overlord. He died in EGEDE, Hans (a’ge-da), the apostle of Green land, born in 1686 in Norway, died in 1758. In 1721 Egede set sail for Green land with the intention of converting the natives to Christianity, and for fifteen years performed the most arduous duties as mi ionary, winning by his persevering kindne the confidence of the natives. In 1736 he returned to Copenhagen, where he was made a bishop and director of the Green land Mi ions.
