Raft

(raft.) [From L. ra tis.] (Naut.) A sort of float or pontoon, consisting of planks or logs of wood lashed together side by side;-often used for preservation of life at sea of crews of ve els which have been lost. Also, a quantity of lumber, secured together by chains for the purpose of being more conveniently floated down a river. [s. 751]
