hėr′mēz, n. the herald and me enger of the gods of Greek mythology, patron of herdsmen, arts, and thieves: a head or bust on a square base, often double-faced:— pl. Hermæ (her′mē): the Egyptian Thoth, identified with the Greek Hermes.
