Steam-whistle

A contrivance to give loud sounds either as signals or warnings, by the action of jets of steam; obtained through the steam whistle-pipe from the boiler. The apparatus is generally placed on the fore side of the funnel, within easy reach of those in charge on-the pilot-bridge. See Plate 63 0. «
