American poet. Thanatopsis. Born in Ma achusetts; at 13 wrote The Embargo and The Spanish Revolution; published The Ages, 1821 became an editor of the New York Evening Post in 1826; Translation of Homer, 1867. Born, 1794; died, 1878.
