[O. Fr. fault if, faultive.] Faulty. fa'-lăng, s. pl. [Fr.] Geol.: A French provincial term for the shelly Tertiary (Upper Miocene) strata of Touraine and the Loire. Though generally composed of shelly sand and marl, in some districts they form a soft building-stone, chiefly composed of an aggregate of broken shells, bryozoa, corals, and echinoderms, united by a calcareous cement. They are found in scattered patches, rarely more than 50 feet in thickne . The fo ils are chiefly marine, but there occur also land and fresh-water shells, and the remains of numerous mammals.
