Congreve

(kõng'greev,) WILLIAM, an English dramatist, B. 1670. He was one of the greatest wits of his time, and some of his fine comedies, as, for instance, those of The Old Bachelor, and the Way of the World, still keep po e ion of the stage. D. 1729.-C., SIR WILLIAM, an English engineer officer, B. 1772, was the inventor of the rockets which bear his name, and which were first used in the attack on Boulogne, 1806. D. 1828. [s. 218]
