GLASCOE, U.S.N., 1801-1870. Commander 1841, Captain 1855; famous for the capture of New Orleans. April 25, 1862, and of Mobile, Jan. 1864, having opened the Mi i ippi in the interval; Rear-admiral 1862, Vice-admiral 1864, and Admiral 1866, the last two grades being created in his honor.
