Hick'ok, Laurens

PERSEUS, divine and scientific writer, born at Danbury, Conn., in 1798; graduated at Union College, Schenectady, in 1820, and in 1852, after holding a profe orship in the Theological Seminary, Auburn, N. Y., became vice-president and profe or of mental and moral science of Union College, and president, 1866-68. He wrote: Rational Psychology (1848); Mor al Science (1853); Empirical Psychology on the Human Mint as given in Consciousne (1854); Rational Cosmol ogy (1858); Creator and Creation (1872); Humanity Im mortal (1872). Died in 1876. Hickory, in North Carolina , a post-village of Catawba co., on C. & L. and Southern R. Rs. Has wagon works, cotton, flour, saw and planing mills, a shoe factory, tannery, cigar and tobacco works. Pop . (1890) 2,023.
