PALATO-PHARYNGEUS

A muscle which arises at the root of the uvula and soft palate, and is inserted into the upper and back part of the thyroid cartilage; it draws the uvula and soft palate downwards and backwards, and pulls the thyroid cartilage and pharynx upwards. [s. 893]
