[s. 92] : A district in the west part of with the peninsula of Jaffna, Ceylon, coincident the parishes anciently formed by the 1 ortuone of guese Government. There were also churches built in these parishes, which afterward fell into the decay, and when (1817) the ABCFM occupied buildings place as a mi ion station the remaining Govern were put into their hands by the British ment for mi ion purposes. wite, This station now has 1 mi ionary and hjs outwith 98 native workers, men and women, 10 schools, stations, 8 preaching places, 37 common members, besides 1 high school and 450 church but Jaffna College, independently supported with a mi ionary at its head. 92
