HERPES

(Yunanca köken — orijinale bakınız.) A cutaneous disease, consisting of clusters of minute vesicles generally containing a brownish or milky lymph: in about eight or ten days they scab off', and other crops appear. It is not limited to any part of the body, but is generally preceded by more or le fever and pain or irritation of the part. It is often called the tetters. Another form of it constitutes the shingles. These eruptions are sometimes confounded with erysipelas, from which they are distinguished by the want of tumefaction and considerable constitutional symptoms, and by the natural state of the skin between the crops of eruption: they are distinguished from some similar eruptions by the vesicular form of the cuticular elevations at their first appearance, by their regular progre , and limited duration.
