See coal - mouse. Coleonyx (kol-e-on'iks), n. [NL. (J. E. Gray, 1845), Gr. κολεός, a sheath, + όνυξ, a nail: see onyx.] A genus of American gecko-like lizards, of the family Eublepharida. C. variegatus, the varie IMG:content-0786.jpg:[graphic] Variegated Gecko ( Coleonyx variegatus). gated gecko, is a rare species, inhabiting the southwestern United States. It is of a brownish-yellow color, blotched or banded with reddish brown and pure white below. coleophyl, coleophyll (kole-o-fil), n. [Also, as NL., coleophyllum; a succe ion of rudimentary leaves, and remaining as a sheath at their base after their development. Also called coleoptile. [Rare.] coleophyllous (kole-o-fil'us), a.
