Arriānus

, a philosopher of Nicomedia, priest of Ceres and Proser pine, and disciple of Epictetus, called a second Xenophon, from the elegance and sweetne of his diction, and distinguished for his acquaintance with military and political life. He wrote seven books on Alexander’s expedition, the periplus of the Euxine and Red seas, four books on the di ertations of Epictetus, besides an account of the Alani, Bithynians, and Parthians. He flourished about the 140th year of Christ, and was rewarded with the consulship and government of Cappadocia, by Marcus Ant on in us.
