Helots

Serfs or bondsmen in ancient Sparta; the original population, conquered by the Dorian invaders. They belonged to the state, were a igned to the wealthier citizens for farm labor, and could not be sold away from the land. They served in war under their masters. Helps, SIR ARTHUR, 1813-1875.
