ru bianic

[Eng. rubian; -ic.] Contained or derived from rubian (q. v.). rubianic-acid, s. tastes bitter, reddens litmus, di olves easily in boiling water and in alcohol, but not in ether. rû-bi-ăn-in, s. [Eng. rubian; -in.] Chem.: C32H38015. Obtained by boiling aqueous coloring rubian with dilute sulphuric acid, di olving out alizarin, ., with boiling alcohol from matters produced, and continuing the treatment of the solid residue with boiling alcohol, from whence rubianin crystallizes into lemon-yellow colored needles with silky luster, moderately soluble in boiling water, very slightly in alcohol. rû-bi-can, a . [Fr., from Lat. rubeo =to be red.] A term applied to a horse that is bay, sorrel, or black, with a light gray or white upon the flanks, but so that this gray or white is not predominant there. *rû-bi-ca-tive, s. [Lat. rubeo =to be red.] That which produces a reddish or ruby color.
