Diadem

(di'a-dèm) [From Gr. dia deo, I bind round.] Anciently, a head-band or fillet worn by kings as a badge of regality. It was made of silk, thread, or wool, and was wound round the temples and forehead, the ends being tied behind, and let fall on the neck. In modern parlance, the crown or distinguishing emblem of royalty worn on the head. [s. 282]
