eclampsia

(ck-lamp’se-ah) [Gr. é& out + λάμπειν to flash]. A sudden attack of convulsions, especially one of a peripheral origin. infantile e., eclampsia of reflex origin, as from tecthing, worms, rickets, fever, or diarrhea, or from temporary cerebral congestion. Θ. nu’tans, nodding spasm, or salaam convulsion. See convulsion. puerperal e., occurs at or near the end of pregnancy, and is often uremic. Θ. ro’tanms, gyrospasm. uremic e., cclampsia caused by uremia due to suppre ion of the urine.
