Sumach (su'-mak). The powdered leaves, peduncles, and young branches of Rhus coriaria, R. cotinus, and other species of Rhus. used in the manufacture of leather. Sumac contain.from 16 to 24 per cent, of a tannin that seems to be identical with gallotannic acid. See Rhus .
