Arachis (arakis)

[NL., grundnud iseende alts pod which now cultivated in most warm cli when mature is oblong, often contracted in the middle, wrinkled, of a pale-yellow color, and contains two seeds of the size of a hazel-nut, sweet in flavor, especially when IMG:content-1041.png:[blocks in formation] roasted, and yielding when pre ed an oil not inferior to that of olives. The plant grows to the height of 1 or 2 feet. -Arachis-oil, the oil expre ed from the seeds of Arachis hypogœa, the fine limpid nut-oil of commerce, used as a substitute for olive-oil, and largely in soap-making.
