A contralto singer, played the chief contralto parts in all the Italian operas and also in English operas, was the original Azucena when the English version of Il Trovatore was produced at Drury Lane May 1855; sang the contralto parts in Handel’s and Mendel ohn’s oratorios at Sacred harmonic society’s concerts; played the leading roles in Shakespeare an dramas and modern comedies; ( m.
