SHOLAPUR

[s. 693] : A town in Bombay, India, 280 Bombay, on the Bombay and miles E. S. E. of Madras Railroad. Temperature 50° to 110° F. an altitude of 1,800 feet, in the center of a wide plain. It is an important trade center and manufactures silk and cotton. Population (1901), 75,288. Languages, Marathi, Hindu stan i, Kanarese. Station of the ABCFM (1864), with (1903) 3 mi ionaries, one of them with his It stands at Siam wife; 2 women mi ionaries, 48 native workers, 15 outstations, 9 places of worship, 28 Sunday schools, 18 day schools, 1 dispensary, 1 kindergarten, 1 orphanage, 2 boarding schools, and 174 profe ed Christians. Also station of the Mi ion to Lepers, which supports the leper asylum of the ABCFM. SHOSHONG: The former capital of the Bamangwato tribe of Bechuanas, situated in Bechuanaland. South Africa, about 30 miles N. W. of the Shoshong Road station on the railroad. Station of the LMS, with (1903) 1 mi ionary and his wife. 693
